Food for the Disappointed and Confused
by Tuirgin on Mar.29, 2010, under Food, Work
Over the weekend I thought I had a job again. Today was the day to meet with the prospective employer, fill in the missing details, and make it official. One strange and unsettlingly bellicose phone call later I find that it is not to be. Beware of the meekness of Dr. Jekyll. Timeo Danaos et dona ferentis. &tc.
My wife, around whom my world orbits, may her pinky toes be praised, and may her laughter grace my ears forever, had secretly ordered a couple of books for me which arrived today. Perfect timing for a bit of grace. God be praised for the conjunction of books and food for their consolatory properties: Peter Reinhart’s American Pie: My Search for the Perfect Pizza, and The Bread Baker's Apprentice: Mastering the Art of Extraordinary Bread.
Thank you, my love.

All of this is the result of several months of work. Sometime late in the morning I was called to the office of the CEO. When I left, I was jobless.
